Welcome to #AskAstronomy Twitter Edition

Hello everyone, and welcome to the blog for @askastronomy, #askastronomy on Twitter.

This was all inspired by the fun some of us had on Twitter responding to questions tagged #bbcstargazing during the January 2012 BBC Stargazing LIVE show (which asked for questions to be posed on Twitter with the hashtag).

The general idea is that interested people and expert (or learning to be expert) astronomers should follow the hashtag #askastronomy on Twitter to ask and/or answer astronomical questions.

If you prefer to send messages to @askastronomy that's fine too.

This blog will feature some of the questions and responses.

Who knows if this will work, but seemed worth a try.

By the way there are already some excellent Ask an Astronomer websites out there, including Curious? Ask an Astronomer run out of Cornell University which I was heavily involved in as a PhD student. My Twitter idea is in no way meant to compete with or replace such services, but is an idea to complement them on the Twitter platform.
